For GIZ, Connexus led a field mission to Mali to document the state of agricultural finance available in the country, including strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and constraints. Connexus interviewed a wide range of stakeholders including managers and loan officers of three large agricultural finance providers (BNDA, Kafojiginew, and NyesigiSo) and rice and vegetable farmers to assess the supply and demand for short- and medium-term finance. In addition, Connexus interviewed related technical assistance providers and projects, including GIZ’s PASSIP and Mali Nord programs and USAID’s IICEM program. Connexus spoke with government ministers and agents to assess the regulatory environment for agricultural finance, especially related to irrigation systems. Following the information collection, the Connexus team conducted analysis and made recommendations that were presented to the Ministry of Agriculture and GIZ.
