Connexus conducted an assessment on credible options for increasing access to agricultural financing for rural farmers as part of the PRISMA program of the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Decentralisation – Rural Economic Development (AIPD Rural), which was supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). As part of the evaluation, Connexus examined the potential viability of an AIPD-Rural project to support the capacity of Bank Andara (a microfinance wholesale bank) to expand their lending to an additional 15,000 smallholder farmers. Through interviews with key stakeholders, Connexus assessed the need for value chain financing products, how value chain finance products could be developed for microfinance organizations, and the capacity of the organizations to implement the products. Connexus presented a summary of the findings and recommendations to the management of AIPD-Rural, PRISMA, and Bank Andara.
